Derek was an inspiration to us with his cheerfulness and dedication to the Bands in the Park. Even through the last few years, when he was clearly in increasing amounts of pain, we would be amazed to see him turning up to support visiting bands and chat with many of those listening to the programme of music on offer that week. The work that he did in organising the Bands in the Park brought so much pleasure to so many people, including us. We feel privileged to have known Derek and he will be greatly missed.
